BTRrk,

The world has so many languages and all translate the name of Christ Jesus into their own mother tongue. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I do not worship a name, but a Person whom I know personally, Who dwells in me.

If He is called Prince of peace, Emmanuel, Alpha and Omega, Jesus or Yeshua, it is all about the Person.

Form of worship will lead to religion. Be aware.

.....for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. Ps 138:2

In Christ Jesus

Kathleen,
...absolutely, if we are not listening to the Holy Spirit's input, guidance and counsel, continually, we are at great risk of 'eating the wrong food'.. :-)

..and today, there is so much 'junk food' that is really bad for us.

'Christianity'is indeed in a mess.About 20 years ago we were visited in the UK by the famous Billy Graham. He toured the country holding revival meetings in every major city.Football stadiums were filled with people eager to hear the words of this great man of God.

Hundreds of people came forward at each of these revivals when called to accept Jesus Christ as their savior. Each person who came forward was given 5 to 10 minutes backstage with one of an army of counselors.

They all went away believing that they had been saved. For the vast majority of them it was a delusion. If it is that easy to be saved then why is Christianity in such a mess of doctrines.

Repentance is essential and true repentance goes very deep into the soul.It requires a truly contrite spirit and a truly broken heart.

A true understanding of the sermon on the mount is the key.It was not really a sermon. It was Jesus talking privately to his disciples. His message is misunderstood by Christianity.Often I have heard it taught that it is about the poor.It is about the poor in SPIRIT.It is about true repentance which comes from a contrite spirit and true grief (distress) that comes from a broken heart. If we have not experienced this depth of broken heart then we are not saved.

The sermon on the mount is the key to entry into the Kingdom of God.

Even then we must take up our own cross and deny ourselves daily.Only when we have achieved the point of overcoming can we be less observant of our selves.

In my experience many of us have a harder time than Jeri.It depends on our character before being re born, how much rebellion has been laid down and over how long. How egotistical we are.How easily we are tempted to return to the adversary.

Nevertheless the principals outlined by Jeri are true and reliable.

Yours in Christ.

New born babies are fed mothers milk or formula. They cannot digest anything else for some time.Later they will be fed solid food but in between they are given a sort of mush,a half way house, nothing spicy or salty that will irritate their digestive system.Older children commonly have an appetite for less spicy, exotic food.

Only when we approach adulthood do we develop a taste and desire for the full array of foods. Our systems have to be prepared for these foods for many years.

So it is with Spiritual food. This is how it works. If we try to take a shortcut in this process it is likely that we will come unstuck.

There is a Divine process to follow for true Spiritual growth.
Jesus is the foundation stone and the final capstone. He is also everything in between. We forget all the in between stuff.
I am a builder and understand the amount of work and effort that goes on in building all the in between stuff. If it is not built correctly then the capstone will not fit or it will not stay in place when the storm comes.

Many are trying to fit the capstone when the rest of the house is not correctly or fully prepared. Some even go further and begin to plant their fields when they have not yet finished building the house( Proverbs).

They are running ahead of God's plan ( Apostle Paul ) On this site I read a lot of comments about end time prophecy and peoples efforts to understand it.End time prophecy is rich, exotic food suitable only for the very Spiritually mature. We will not find the truth in it until we are ready, until we are fully prepared for it.True Prophet will appear but only when they have reached this advanced level of maturity.

We will not all be prophets. No amount of discussion and learning will make us prophets unless we are made ready for this food.

Yours in Christ.

Roger, this was a really valuable contrast between feeding the "man" and the spirit. Especially, about how the cells are the arbitor for what the body will accept and what the body will reject. Would you say that on the spiritual side the Holy Spirit functions like the cell does in our body. Letting us know what is good for spiritual food and what is not? I think so and He seems to work that way with me anyway.

God Bless you!

As many will know - from time to time I post articles by T.Austin-Sparks. I enjoy them, and see them as spiritual food.

This one arrived in my inbox a few hours ago - I would like to share it with you all :-)

Oh, please note that this was written in 1939

********************************

The Food Question
by T. Austin-Sparks

In times of national emergency by reason of threatening or actual war, one of the most vital considerations, and one that very largely governs the issue, is that of the food supply. To conserve it is a primary feature of both defence and aggression. To keep it from falling into the enemy's hands is a tactic of victory. If this is true in the natural and earthly realm, it certainly is true in the spiritual and heavenly. It is not always realised by Christians that they are born (at new birth) into conditions which are such as mark an emergency. That is to say, a state of war has existed from the day that Adam sinned, and that warfare is becoming more intense as the end of the dispensation approaches. A feature of this warfare is the food question, and the final issue in the case of each believer depends upon spiritual food to a very serious degree. As in the time of Gideon, so now. The Midianites then sought to spoil and steal all the crops. Gideon was marked by God as one to be taken up and used as a deliverer because secretly he gave himself up to conserve food for his brethren, and so defeat the enemy.

But to consider the matter of food generally, there are some quite simple analogies between the natural and the spiritual.

Firstly, then, is the matter of

Appetite

A first question asked of a patient by a doctor is, How is your appetite? showing that this is closely related to sickness or health, and may be a symptom. Now a fact to be recognised is that in the Christian there is an "inner man", which is altogether other and distinct from the outer man, and has a whole set of definite faculties and functions. This inner man is capable of growth; of being in sickness or in health; of being weak or strong; of being able to do spiritual exploits, or being impotent in the fight. No matter how full of natural vim and energy a Christian may be, he cannot by any natural strength effect even one iota of spiritual value. There will, sooner or later, be a terrible breakdown both in the worker and the work, and any emergency will quickly precipitate this, if there is no real spiritual constitution. This depends upon spiritual food. But inasmuch as it is so easy to go on in natural energy and activity and fail to realise that it is not really spiritual power, we should apply the test of spiritual life and health. How is your appetite? What kind of an appetite have you for spiritual food? Is it poor? Is it easily satisfied? Is it faddy and fussy? Do you have to have your spiritual food prepared and served up in such a pleasant and tasty way as to make you feel that you are eating and yet not eating? What can you eat? is a question for the delicate and invalid.

For the truly healthy and sound, the demand is for "something that you can put your teeth into"; "something solid"; "something to live and work on"! This is a fairly sound test of our spiritual life, and Paul, the Apostle, has left us in no doubt about it. "I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but... as unto babes. I fed you with milk, not with meat; for... ye were not able to bear it" (1 Cor. 3:1,2).

A Self-deceiving Practice

One of the most treacherous and disastrous features of the feeding side of life in recent years is the confectionery side. Pleasant to the taste, nullifying the sense of hunger for the moment, quick to be taken, the sense of need or desire for anything more substantial is destroyed. But it is a false world, treacherous in that it fails to make for constitution, and when the rigid test comes; when epidemics are rife, and germs are abroad; when for any reason endurance is called for or a crisis has to be passed, then the fatal lack of constitution is revealed.

This all has a tragic counterpart or parallel in the spiritual life. There is a distressing tendency to serve up spiritual things in the way that will make the least demand. Attractiveness is a primary consideration. The solid classics of a generation or two ago have been supplanted by that which can be read in a few minutes, and then is done with. It is said that this is what is demanded, and there is little demand for anything more substantial. Is this a symptom of the spiritual state of the majority of Christians today? We cannot but foresee a terrible "fainting in the day of adversity".

The perils of this condition are many and great. One of them is a predisposition to error. Errors usually gain their advantage by presenting something which offers the line of least resistance. That is to say, they seem easily to solve some difficult problem, or offer a quick way to a desired end. There is something pleasant and fascinating about every substitute which Satan produces for the pure truth. People who are not prepared to take or accept the way of the Cross in all its implications are carried away as by a flood when some beautiful lie is offered as a way to reach the same end. The Word of God makes it unmistakably clear that the Cross demands or postulates the setting aside of the whole race in Adam, and of man by nature; and that there is no hope for any, only as they are of the new creation in Christ Jesus. Universalism — the pretty lie — will destroy the real meaning of the Cross by saying that the Cross is such a great thing that it could never allow of a single unit being lost eternally. We only cite this as indicative of how a superficial state of spiritual life resultant from poor feeding lays people open to be swept away by beautiful errors.

Discrimination and Seriousness of Purpose

A predisposition in the physical realm to any malady is often overcome by constitutional means. So it is in the spiritual.

In the physical body there is a wonderful system of testing (accepting or rejecting) food properties. The blood-stream performs the double function of bringing nourishment to each and every part of the body, and taking from it its waste products for elimination. Everything that is taken into the body is carried to the little doors, so to speak, or cells, and there it is challenged by the action of certain secretions. Such of the food as is found to have nutritive qualities is accepted, broken down, and transmuted into vital tissue and nerve fuel. If there are useless or poisonous elements, they are — in a healthy body — rejected. A battle may ensue for their ejection, and some consciousness of this battle may be registered in the person concerned. The point for the moment is, that in the matter of food there is required a basic vitality by which values are discerned, determined, and turned into the thought, the speech, the action, and the nature of the individual. On the other hand, the harmful elements, and that which is lacking in value, will be perceived and rejected. Thus in the case of the believer, how important it is that for building up there should be a real vitality in relation to food.

So then, real life means appetite and discrimination, leading to strength and capability. But it is also necessary to take an initial serious attitude toward the food question. We can through carelessness fail to give the inner man what he needs, and just allow him to be served up with mere pleasantries in spiritual truth. Let us recognise that he must have wholesome and really nutritious food, and we should give ourselves definitely to seeking this out. The essence of nourishment is Christ Himself. Therefore the test of everything is whether it really ministers Christ to us. Not, How much more do we know? or, Have a pleasant sensation, but, How is it possible to grow in the measure of Christ?

To all,

It's been great 'posting' back and forth. I'am woking on another book and therefore, won't have too much time to keep posting. I'm also working on some new audio sermons.

1Th 4:7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

1Th 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor;

God Bless you all

It seems the thread may be winding down a bit.

New contributors are welcome of course. :)

Hi Lucindaj,

Thanks for sharing and having such a heart to follow after the Lord. I know sometimes these discussions get very 'doctrinal’ and can sometimes be confusing-probably because I'm not saying them in a way that you can immediately relate to.

I'm so sorry for any 'unintentional trouble' this thread has caused you, but I do think it is good for us all to'stretch' our thinking. Believe me my WHOLE BRAIN was ready to ooz out of my head when the Lord personally started His own 'thread' with me concerning the subject of my book.
Truly my mind was 'blown', it has caused a whole REFORMATION inside my 'blind brain' concerning these truths. Although I had Him in my heart, but I had become 'blind' to why the church was in so much sin.

When Chris was going through his deep 'change of life' through deep repentance and seeking the Lord, one day he said, totally honestly and from his heart, “wow, I wonder if I have never even been saved, maybe that’s been my problem?” And, ‘I’ as a ‘wise’ Christian guide, rolled my eyes and was ABOUT to say ‘oh don’t be ridiculous of course you have been saved’ thinking I wouldn't have never married you if you weren’t saved and look at all the ministry we have done together! BUT before I could speak these ‘words of wisdom’, the LORD said to me (inside my mind) “SHUT-UP LET HIM GET TO WHERE HE IS GOING!” Wow this was the harshest and loudest words that the Lord had ever spoken to me SO I KNEW INSTANTLY, that this was Chris’ problem! So I didn’t say a word about this to Chris ever, I just sat quietly and let him ‘get’ to ‘it’ on his own! It took months and then Chris ’knew’ also that this had been his problem. But I’m going to tell you, when the Lord told me to SHUT-UP I also instantly knew that my thinking and counseling had done nothing but aid him in his struggle. I was now AWAKENED to the truth of why Chris struggled so in his ‘Christian’ life. I basically have done nothing other for the last 4 years than study the word to see if this could be true-and yes it was! Therefore I wrote the book to help others and I CRY out to the church to stop the madness, and the blindness and AWAKE!

God bless you,

Jeri
