Brother John:
Great article. It's helpful to know why some conversations are so frustrating, and others are so good. Many have not been taught the art of good conversation.
Being in sales, and a sales trainer, I recognize the various techniques people use to push others to go in a direction we want them to go, rather than helping them find out what is right for them.
The skill of listening to someone with respect, and trying to understand what is behind their words, is primary. And here on this site we have many who just can't wait to blurt out their next sentence, and are only half-listening, or not listening at all.
Yet there are others who think, pray, study and respond thoughtfully. We should all be more like them.
Thank you.
A. Brother
Amen Brother
Gee, I've never used any of these techniques. It's good to be Perfect.
Coming from you, John, I'm surprised you were able to find such a good article.
The truth truly is a double-edged sword. Thank you, John. Excellent post. I see myself in this way too much.
Kenneth, I actually found that writeup on another website (a rather secular one) years ago.
I did a double-read on your post before I "got it". lol
Good stuff. :)
John,
Could't understand the introduction on the first post, but understood on the next post.
THANKS SO MUCH, I had some really good laughs.
CONTROL seems to be the number one factor in mosts of these.
Control is something I'm wanting to deal with, in my everyday life at the moment.
Good Discernment, Vicki-Lynn!
ALL sin is rooted in UNBELIEF.
CONTROL is rooted in Fear,Pride,Arrogance(which includes self-righteousness)
FEAR casts out FAITH.
Fear is the opposite of Faith..therefore if we have fear, then there is something we do not believe, or believe falsely, about God or what He says.
Pride is a FAITH (dependence)in our own ABILITIES or what we own.
Arrogance is a FAITH (dependence)in our own KNOWLEDGE,REASONING,UNDERSTANDING. (basically exalting our own unredeemed MIND instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to RENEW our mind to His mind)
People are afraid to let God do their thinking for them! Why? Because it is a loss of "control" a loss of SELF.
With God being SOVEREIGN over EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE, control is only an ILLUSION of our deceptive unredeemed hearts, minds, souls.
Thought provoking! Thank you for sharing it.
It makes me think of "Let your 'yes' be 'yes' and your 'no' be no'- everything else comes from the evil one.
The posts about control, pride, and fear...wow...that is something to think about. Thank you Lord for this revelation!
New Jersualem,
I understand what you are saying, as faith casts out fear or fear is lack of faith.
I find it strange sometimes as that hasn't always been the case for me.
I remember times when our family were traveling out in the country areas west of Brisbane and we had been driving without any petrol for miles already, we were going up a lonely mountain about 10pm at night and, I had fear of the obvious, and we started praying again in Tongues, and that helped us get over the fear as we drove on & on.
I remember being in fear when we had no food, but God was still faithfull, even through my fear.
Many times I've been in fear, but I still had no choice but to trust the Lord.
Is it wrong that I want to encourage people even in their fears, God can still work.
We all haven't arrived in fully trusting the Lord, but he can still be faithfull even when we haven't been faithfull.
But I still have lots to learn about control.
Thankyou for you thoughts.
John, I'm so glad you "got it". I actually felt guilty for saying what I said because I realize how things can look when we aren't talking "face to face". I really was trying to be clever, so to speak, and I did trust the Lord that you would understand, but My Flesh got scared afterwards and left me open to condemnation for my satirical post.
God was merciful, and I am so grateful that He was.
Yours was an excellent post, and unforunately, I have committed those sins as well as having had those terrorisms imposed upon me.
Thank you again for passing that article along to this site, and thank you for "pausing" before blasting me!!!
Irreverence to tradition is no sin. Our Lord Jesus made clear that it is the traditions of men that make the Word of God of no effect, a point which I was attempting to illustrate by my satire, however poorly I made it. My thanks are offered up to our God that your feelings weren't hurt. Thank you for your kind and gracious response.

Friend, if I were to fuss at you, I'd be throwing stones at myself too.
There isn't anything to forgive, but it reminds me something about forgiveness:
Once a person knows before God what they've been forgiven of (because HE told you), it becomes very hard to get mad at people or hold ill will to them.
Matthew 18:23-35
Divine Love for people - no matter what they do, how badly they speak of you or treat you, how wrong they are about the things of God, anything - that sort of Divine Love is only a gift that no man can learn or teach himself. I fail, unless I feel God working within me. I'm not special at all.
Kenneth you're just fine. Actually I'm glad for your posts - both of them in this thread. Praise God.
Conversational Terrorism: How NOT to Talk! :)
I must confess, I find myself in that article more than I'd like to admit.
Thanks so much for sharing it with us John.

I have to admit that I have only just read this page.I really should have before.
I would like to apologize to everyone if I have ever been guilty of using any of these ploys.
This is all amazing stuff. Its a mine field.Thank you so much for posting it.
Please everyone,if you find me using any of these ploys point it out to me.
Yours in Christ.
A great book to read is called "The Fallacy Detective" by the Bluedorns. We use it as our "logic course" since we homeschool.
The bible calls it "the works of the flesh"...mainly if we are self willed we will do whatever we can to use all the tactics we can to feed the sinful flesh frenzy.
The flesh is rotten to the core. For the heart of man is wicked above all things, who can know it? Jesus says.
We need a good ole cleansing, wash our hands, and purify our hearts and put away all filthiness of the flesh, and quit letting the flesh get away with murder. Crucify it.

Sarah

...
(post of the day Sarah, thank you)
We don't even know our own hearts, without Him showing it to us.
If we ~think~ we know our own heart, even if we think we are doing what HE wants, are we more truly deceived?
(food for thought)
